In compliance with the ethics of my profession – and to ensure the utmost quality – I only translate into my mother tongue, English. However, I am also fluent in both German and Dutch so we can also converse in either of those languages if that suits you better.
My high-quality work involves a professional, human service and I truly value great collaboration and communication. So please always feel free to ask questions or make personal requests – this is all part of a great service I aim to provide.
01Translation
I translate your German or Dutch text into English. In order for this to be successful, an understanding of the world the text comes from and the one it is being translated into is essential. This is something I possess thanks to the skills and experiences I have accumulated through studying languages and translation as well as living and working as a professional translator in the Northwest of Germany. My translations do not just involve writing what the words say, they involve writing what the text means – be that meaning obvious or subtle. On top of that, the style and register of the translation must be both consistent and appropriate for the intended reader.
02Editing
Editing involves the correction of your translation by comparing it with the original source language document in order to correct any mistranslations, inconsistencies, misuses of terminology as well as spelling and grammatical errors. On top of that, it may also be necessary for me to amend the style and register to make sure that the text is consistent and appropriate for the reader.

03Proofreading
Proofreading involves me thoroughly reading your text in order to identify and rectify any mistakes such as spelling, grammar, syntax and stylistic errors. It is different to editing because it is an English-only service and does not involve a comparison with any other language.

If you do have work from another field, please free to send it to me, I will have a look at it and check whether I can provide work to the best standards – this is usually the case. However, if I do come to the conclusion that the text is not within my realm of expertise, I will be happy to refer you to a trusted colleague.
